Our Fair Trade Drums & other African musical instruments are bought directly from Master Drum Makers of the Artisans` Village, Dakar, Senegal.
These are the premier drums of the Djembe world and have a much heavier sound than Ghanaian & other drums
Our Djembes are traditionally handcrafted from Dugura Wood (latin Cordyla pinnata). The color varies from brown to darker tobacco. It is heavier and denser than the lingual wood also used. This is a prestigious wood of unmatched quality, found in Mali and Guinea.
The drums are coated with shea butter inside and beeswax outside to produce the shine.
Ropes are halyard pre-stretched polyester 5 mm in diameter (tricolor, bicolor or black)
The Drum Heads are shaved Goatskin.

Drumhead 10" / 25cm Height 19" / 48cm weight 5-6 kg
This is for musicians who want a lightweight quality instrument. With a sharp sound it can be suitable for a solo percussion ensemble
This size offers a great value introduction into the Djembe world
The Djembe Grand Classic
Drumhead 12" / 30cm Height 24" / 60cm weight 8-9 kg
This is for all Djembe lovers who appreciate the sound quality and finish of a larger Professional instrument
Other smaller sizes are available for young players and for those who wish to travel with a small Djembe in their backpack
