Pashmina, from the Persian word for wool, is popularly known in the West as cashmere wool, from the old spelling for Kashmir.

The wool comes from the pashmina goat, which is a special breed indigenous to the high altitudes of the Himalayas. Pashmina shawls are hand-spun, woven and embroidered in Kashmir (ours from the Indian part of Kashmir), and made from fine cashmere fibre.
